THE MARCH TOWARDS GREEEN©

GREEN is the in thing right now and everybody, whether knowledgeable or unaware, are riding the bandwagon. Even local governments are suddenly bitten by the bug to go GREEN and the pioneering start of Muntinlupa City to ban the use of plastics have now been adopted even by nearby municipalities in Cavite. Most of the major cities in Metro Manila have embraced the use of cartons and paper bags knowing fully well that plastics are the culprit in clogging the metropolis’ waterways and rivers.

Slowly we are beginning to see the gradual education of the populace about green practices and pretty soon, people will start noticing that green building practices can be used not only in residential homes but in tall condominiums, commercial buildings and even manufacturing plants.

MOVING FORWARD TO 2012 AND WHAT’S IN STORE FOR US

The last quarter of 2011 brought so many unforgettable events in our organization marked by a record shattering Christmas Party attendance at the Architectural Center Club Makati last December. The HVAC/R coinciding with Philconstruct a month before, also broke attendance records with even the front of the exhibition halls being occupied by furniture displays. Even the 2nd Sustainable Building Technology Conference held in August was successful in its own right, proof that green building technology is here to stay.

However, December brought a storm unlike anything compared to all the previous months’ storms and typhoons. Sendong hit Mindanao stealthily the night of Friday, December 16 and dumped a month’s equivalent of rainwater in Cagayan De Oro and Iligan City, killing more than 1,400 plus people...

The previously held General Membership Meeting of the Philippine Society of Ventilating, Air-conditioning, and Refrigerating Engineers last May 4 at the Architectural Center Club Inc. was a successful one—as it has always been because of the hardworking and generous sponsors.

The presence of the sponsor month of May, Niagara Equipment Corporation, was greatly felt as representatives of the said company also served as the masters of ceremonies during the event and even held a raffle giving away t-shirts and major prizes which includes a coffee maker, among others.
